This morning DongKwan Kim was pulling out 4 bundles of Uline brochures from the end of aisle cart. He indicates hearing a breaking sound from his back. The pain felt initially mild or medium level. He did not report the feeling of pain or the related sound. He continued working the rest of route and reported the incident almost 7 hours later, stating the pain is at the same level as this morning. Upon initial report, Mr. Kim indicated that he did not need first aid or a doctor. Marc Thompson’s immediate discussion with Dongkwan Kim was to determine if this was a major or minor injury. Mr. Kim indicated Minor and Marc provided Mr. Kim with the Minor Injury Report Form. Marc asked Mr. Kim to report his method of lifting items from the End of Aisle cart. Mr. Kim said and demonstrated that he used his knees to bend down and that he twisted to his side to remove items. Marc commended Mr. Kim on using his knees, but discussed that twisting leads to Muscoskeletal Injuries. Mr. Kim recognized that he should not have twisted. Marc asked why Mr. Kim took so long to report the injury. Mr. Kim appeared stumped. He said he did not know. He said he felt busy. Marc reminded Mr. Kim of the importance of immediate reporting, as it allows us to help you right away and avoids further injury to you. Mr. Kim acknowledges this. Marc indicated that if any changes tomorrow, please inform us immediately; we can provide modified duties to adjust how you do your work. Marc explained that a doctor is not necessary for us to provide these duties..
